SmartPlan - Balance by Field Value

When there is a need to evenly distribute territories based on a specific value, the Balance by Field Value option is selected. This ensures that all records from the parent node are distributed equally among territories created based on the chosen field value.

Prioritizing Balancing Criteria

  1. In the Prioritized Balancing criteria section, select Balance by Field Value in the Add Criteria option.
  2. A new Balance by Field Value section appears where territories are balanced by the aggregation of a particular field value. Choose either SUM or COUNT in the aggregation field and select the corresponding field:
    1. For SUM, fields such as Hierarchy level, Number of Employees, and Annual Revenue can be selected.
    2. For COUNT, all other fields except the aforementioned three can be chosen.
  3. Next, select Create Criteria to open the Filter Builder window and specify your criteria. This step is optional.
  4. Once the criteria are set, select OK.

Handling Accounts not Matching Criteria

There are two options for accounts that do not match the chosen criteria:

  1. Place them in the Unassigned node (default selection).
  2. Distribute them equally among all territories, ignoring the given criteria.

Additional Options

Choose whether to include Named Accounts in the Smart Plan balancing or exclude them.

Select the treatment of Account Families: decide whether to include or exclude child accounts.

Balance by field value (SUM) - Illustration

Imagine a scenario where there's a node named "Spain" containing a total of 1020 records. The objective is to divide this node into 3 territories, each with an equal sum value of the number of employees. Spain has approximately 3 million employees in total.

After applying the "Balance by Field Value (SUM)" feature in SmartPlan, three child nodes named Spain_1, Spain_2, and Spain_3 are generated. Each of these nodes contains approximately 1 million employees, with specific numbers being around 999,768 employees in each node, ensuring a balanced distribution.

Balance by field value (COUNT) - Illustration

Let's envision a scenario where the "Spain" node contains a total of 1020 records. The objective is to evenly distribute this node into 3 territories, with an equal count of customer types. Specifically, there are 1,017 records under the "Prospect" type and only 3 records under the "Customer" type in Spain.

After applying the "Balance by Field Value (COUNT)" feature on the "TYPE" field in SmartPlan, three child nodes named Spain_1, Spain_2, and Spain_3 are generated. Each of these nodes contains 1 Customer type and 339 Prospect types, ensuring an equal distribution of records across territories.
