Flow of Target Creation
Creating targets involves four basic steps. The flow of target creation is shown in the figure below
Steps to create a target with a basic definition and a goal
- Access your Fullcast instance and switch plans if applicable.
- Click Manage Targets on the Territories tile.
- Select Add New tab in the Targets screen that appears.
- Complete configuring the target based on the information in the table below:

| Target Name | A unique identifier for the target. |
| Type | Select Time-Series. This is where the target is typically broken down into a month-by-month schedule. |
| Actuals | This metric measures the actual progress of the target. Every target must have a metric. |
| Fiscal | The fiscal year that the target is for. |
| Start Date | The date this target started. |
| End Date | The date this target will end. |
| Role | No target can be created without having a person in a role responsible and accountable for it. All targets must be assigned to a specific role, and when a person is assigned to that role – they would inherit the target. |
| Split Type | Identifies whether people in the same role split the target or get the whole target. |
| Group | A label is used to group targets for easy representation. This has no impact on functionality. E.g. In a compensation plan, targets are usually measured under various categories. It is better to use hashtags (#) to name groups. |
- Check the box “Automatically distribute the target to child nodes”.
- Assign a default distribution amount that you want to distribute to the new nodes. Once configured, whenever a new child node is created, the specified target amount will be automatically distributed to it. For instance, if you choose to automatically distribute a target of 3,000 prospects and set 1,000 as the default distribution amount, any new node you create will be assigned a target of 1,000 prospects.
Note: If you do not require automatic distribution of targets to new nodes, you can opt for the standard distribution of targets. This offers three options: "Do not distribute," "Distribute equally," or "Ratio based on field." However, when the automatic distribution of targets is selected, these standard distribution options are not applied to new nodes.
- Configure the target’s goals.
- Click Save.
When you have selected time series, you will see the option to define the schedule and add any adjustments if applicable.
What are Schedules
Apply schedules when initially creating a time-series target or when providing bottom-up feedback. If you have an annual goal, the target amount may not be evenly distributed across every month. To address this, you can add a month-by-month schedule to break down the target. For each month in the fiscal year, you can specify what the monthly breakdown of the annual goal should be.
Note: You can only create a schedule breakdown for a time-series-based metric, and not for a scalar metric.
When you select “Add Schedule”, you have three options:
- Manual: Customize the breakdown percentages for each month of the fiscal period for which this target is valid. Ensure that the manually entered target percentages per month do not exceed 100%.
- Seasonality: Utilize historical business cycles to set appropriate targets. Seasonality breaks down a target into smaller chunks, representing the percentage of achievement for each month based on an existing time-series metric (such as last year’s revenue). Selecting this option will automatically populate the schedule form for you.
- Rule of 78: This method involves multiplying the amount of new revenue you plan to bring in each month by 78 to determine the total revenue earned in 12 months. Choosing this option will auto-populate the schedule form for you.
Regardless of the scheduling method chosen, the sum of each month’s action percentage should add up to 100%
